TCL expands to The Woodlands

Texas Collegiate LeagueThe summer-collegiate Texas Collegiate League is adding an eighth team for the 2012 season, with a new franchise in The Woodlands to be owned by local resident Ramiro Lozano.

The team, which will be named via a name-the-franchise contest, will play out of The Woodlands Christian Academy. Several college players from Texas colleges have already committed to playing for the team.

The Woodlands, of course, is located in suburban Houston. Affiliated and independent-league teams have made runs at the market, only to be thwarted by the Houston Astros or market forces.

The league was at seven teams last season. Those seven are returning, although there will be a new ownership group in McKinney.
