Labatt Park named Canada’s favorite ballpark

Baseball CanadaIn a contest tallying over 19,000 votes, London’s Labatt Park was named Canada’s favorite ballpark by Baseball Canada, beating out Thunder Bay’s Port Arthur Stadium in the finals.

Labatt Park, one of the oldest ballparks still in existence, has been home to professional, semipro and independent teams over the years.

“Baseball Canada congratulates Labatt Park and the residents of London, Ontario on winning this contest,” said Jim Baba, Director General of Baseball Canada. “We believe that quality ballparks and baseball facilities across Canada play a major role in promoting out sport. Labatt Park is all of that along with having a rich history that many ball players, not only in London but across this country, have had the experience of living first hand.”

The victory by Labatt Park completes the contest that originally received over forty submissions throughout Canada in late-June. From there, sixteen ballparks were selected and placed into groups of four where on-line voting took place over a four week period which determined the final four. After two head-to-head semi-final weeks, Labatt Park and Port Arthur Stadium emerged as finalists.
