Rafters adding extra seating for All-Star Game

Witter Field All-Star Seating

High-class problem to have: the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters are adding bleachers to Witter Field for this Monday’s Northwoods League All-Star Game, as demands for tickets is outpacing the ballpark’s capacity.

Witter Field is a historic old Wisconsin State League and Midwest League ballpark, revitalized by the emergence of the Rafters last season. The All-Star Game was sold out several weeks ago, but continued demand for tickets prompted the Rafters to add the bleachers.

The festivities begin today at 2:05 p.m. with the Marshfield Clinic Home Run Health Fest. At 4:30 p.m. the league’s top sluggers from both the North and South Divisions will compete in the 2011 Northwoods League Home Run Derby. Eight players, four from each Division, will square off to see who can hit the farthest and win the 2011 Derby title.  Following the Northwoods League Home Run Derby will be an exhibition game featuring the Field of Dreams Ghost Players.  The game will be a seven inning contest and will feature Ghost Players and local celebrities.

The All-Star Game kicks off at 7:05 p.m. on Monday night. Former Milwaukee Brewer and Major League Hall of Famer Paul Molitor will be available for autographs in the concourse at Witter Field beginning at 5:30 p.m., with Rafters season ticket and package holders given first priority, followed by the public beginning at 6:05 p.m. Autographs will be limited to one item per person.  No pictures will be taken with Paul Molitor, but fans are welcome to take photos of Paul as they wait in line.

Tickets for the All-Star Game can be purchased online at raftersbaseball.com, by calling the ticket office at 715/424-5400, or by simply stopping into Witter Field.
