Salazar loses eye after spring-training accident

Atlanta BravesSad news out of spring training: Doctors were unable to save the left eye of Luis Salazar after the Atlanta Braves minor-league coach was struck by a foul ball during a game at Champion Stadium.

Salazar, a former major leaguer slated to serve this season as manager of the Lynchburg Hillcats (High Class A; Carolina League), was standing on the top step of the home dugout during  March 9 game when he was struck by a foul ball off the bat of Brian McCann. He was airlifted to an Orlando hospital, where doctors have been working to save the damaged eye.

Salazar is expected to return home and then join the Hillcats in four to six weeks.
