College baseball comes to BB&T Ballpark this season, as the Winston-Salem Dash (High Class A; Carolina League) and Winston-Salem State University have entered into an agreement for the WSSU baseball team to play the majority of its 2011 home schedule at BB&T Ballpark.
Winston-Salem State University, which is fielding a baseball team for the first time since 1973, will play ten home games, including their home opener, at BB&T Ballpark.
“We are pleased to enrich our partnership with Winston-Salem State University through this agreement,” said Dash team president Geoff Lassiter. “A partnership like this strengthens our relationship with the community and helps lay a tremendous foundation for what we hope will be the first of many collegiate baseball events staged at BB&T Ballpark.”
“Winston-Salem State University is very excited about expanding our existing partnership with the Dash,” said William “Bill” Hayes, WSSU Director of Athletics. “This arrangement will assist in growing our baseball program and provide our student athletes with the opportunity to compete in a state-of-the-art facility.”
The Rams will play their home opener at BB&T Ballpark on February 15 when they host Saint Augustine’s College in a doubleheader that begins at 2 p.m.
Through this agreement, WSSU will participate in the Dash’s amateur baseball ticket program. WSSU will purchase a specified number of tickets to 2011 Winston-Salem Dash baseball games and may sell them to raise money for its baseball booster clubs and/or athletic department. Several high school teams in the area are participating in this program and have also locked in dates to play at BB&T Ballpark against other local teams.
