No CWS beer for you!

NCAAFacing opposition from the city and area businesses, a developer has dropped plans for an event space a block from TD Ameritrade Park, the home of the College World Series, and will instead pave the space for parking and corporate tent space.

Developer Jerry Banks had already received Omaha Planning Board approval for the $1.2 million event space, complete with the ability to sell beer at the CWS. Area businesses raised objections to the plan, saying the land would be better suited for real development — and we’re guessing they weren’t too happy with having to compete with a beer vendor a block from the new ballpark.

So Banks withdrew the application and will instead pave the lot; it will be used for parking until another development opportunity arises.

And with the move goes the beer license.
