Suns, Lugnuts reach milestones

The Hagerstown Suns and Lansing Lugnuts reached significant milestones on the field last night.

The Hagerstown Suns (Low Class A; Sally League) and the Lansing Lugnuts (Low Class A; Midwest League) reached significant milestones in franchise history last night.

The Suns got their 2,000th win in franchise history with a 5-4 comeback win over the Augusta GreenJackets on Saturday night. Steven Souza went 2-for-3 with a home run, three RBIs and the eventual game-winning run.

The Lugnuts received a walk-off single from Chris Hopkins in the bottom of the ninth to defeat the Fort Wayne TinCaps, 3-2, and capture their 1,000thall-time victory before a Saturday-night crowd of 8,212 at Cooley Law School Stadium.

The Lugnuts' first victory came on April 6, 1996, an 18-3 rout of the Rockford Cubs; 5,138 days later, the franchise, now with three All-Star Games and two Midwest League Championships under its belt, reached the 1,000 win mark in dramatic fashion.
