A proposal to use Drillers Stadium, the former home of the Tulsa Drillers (Class AA; Texas League), for midget car races has been scrapped after neighborhood opposition.
The Drillers moved this season to a new downtown ballpark, ONEOK Field. That left Drillers Stadium vacant; the Expo Square management has been hard-pressed to find a use for the ballpark (the University of Tulsa dropped baseball many years ago, and a proposal to revive the program was met with overwhelming apathy), and the city is soliciting proposals for the 5.5-acre site.
The proposal would have allowed three or so midget-car races in the ballpark. However, neighbors objected to the noise potentially created by the races.
