Target Field opens with college game

The weather gods are certainly smiling on the Minnesota Twins, as the first game at Target Field is in the books, with over 37,000 fans showing up to an exhibition game involving the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers. Operations went smoothly, and the fans were pleased.

The first game at Target Field is in the books, with Louisiana Tech trouncing the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers, 9-1.

The action on the field was a secondary story, as the Minnesota Twins used the game as a way to stage a runthrough of Target Field operations before the beginning of the season. The Twins announced over 37,000 $2 tickets were sold to the game; many of these fans checked out the ballpark and then left. The weather gods were certainly smiling on the Twins: what could have been a snowy, blustery day was downright pleasant by Minnesota standards: almost 50 degrees for much of the game.

Next up: a weekend series against the St. Louis Cardinals. We'll see if the weather cooperates: the long-term forecast calls for warmer-than-normal temps (in the 70s starting tomorrow), but there's a chance of rain and thunderstorms by Friday.
