The Seattle Mariners reported a $3.2 million profit for the 2009 season, thanks to a more competitive team and continued fan interest.

That's the word in the annual report filed by the Mariners with the Washington State Major League Baseball Stadium Public Facilities District. Each year the Mariners must file a financial report with the district, which oversees Safeco Field, as part of its lease.

The team turned the tables on a rough 2008, when a loss of $4.5 million was recorded.

The Mariners drew 2.19 million fans last season, the 14th consecutive season with 2 million passing the turnstiles.
