Caloia new GM of Madison Mallards

Conor Caloia returns to the Madison Mallards, this time as GM, as Vern Stenman is the new president of Northwoods League team. The team also announced several other staff promotions, detailed within.A familiar face is back with the Madison Mallards (summer collegiate; Northwoods League). Conor Caloia, who worked for the organization from 2003 to 2006, has been named General Manager heading into the team’s tenth season in the Northwoods League. The former GM, Vern Stenman, will now serve as President of both the Mallards and the new franchise in Wisconsin Rapids both he and Steve Schmitt purchased in December.

Said Caloia, “It is an exciting time to be a part of this organization. I am looking forward to a great 2010 season at the Duck Pond.”

Stenman shares Caloia’s enthusiasm as the team plans to celebrate a rather impressive ten-year run this upcoming season.

“The addition of Conor in combination with our existing front office staff gives us an unprecedented amount of experience working in summer collegiate baseball and we feel very strongly that 2010 will be better than ever,” said Stenman.

Caloia rejoins the Mallards after most recently serving as the Director of Operations of the Wilmington Sharks of the summer collegiate Coastal Plain League. Under his management, the Sharks hosted the 2009 CPL All-Star Game and were named the 2009 CPL Organization of the Year.

Prior to moving to Wilmington, Caloia worked as the Director of Marketing at the Western Athletic Conference. At the WAC he was responsible for developing marketing, branding, and promotional campaigns for the Division I conference.

Caloia started with the Mallards as an intern before working his way up to becoming the team’s Assistant General Manager in 2006.

He is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a B.A. in Journalism with a focus in Strategic Communication. A newlywed, Conor was married in August to wife Rachel. Caloia is originally from St. Charles, Illinois.

 The Mallards also announced several other staff changes for the 2010 season.

Aaron Reinen is now the team’s Ticket Sales and Operations Manager. He previously worked for the organization in 2008 as a Tickets/Hospitality Intern before spending a year with the Indianapolis Speedway as an Inside Sales Representative. Aaron is a 2008 graduate of the University of Wisconsin—La Crosse, in which he earned a Masters Degree in Sports Administration. He is originally from nearby Sun Prairie.

Jerrad Radocay is the new Assistant GM / Corporate Sales and Public Relations. Radocay has been promoted to Assistant General Manager of Corporate Sales and Public Relations after having spent the past three seasons as the head of both departments. He was an Operations Intern in 2006 before being hired full-time the following year. Radocay currently oversees new corporate business, media relations, and the team’s website. A 2004 graduate of Winona State University and member of the baseball team, Radocay is originally from Watertown, Wis.

John Schmeltzer is the new Director of Group Ticket Sales. Schmeltzer has been promoted to Director of Group Ticket Sales after having spent the past four seasons as a Group Sales and Operations Manager. Prior to that John was the Marketing Director in 2005 and a Marketing/Operations Intern in 2004. He currently oversees new group sales, including suites and rooftops, while also working with area little leagues and non-profit organizations. Schmeltzer completed his Masters degree in Sports Administration from the University of Wisconsin—La Crosse in May 2005. He is originally from Oregon, Wis.

Nick Staehler is the new Assistant GM / Ticket Sales and Operations. Staehler has been promoted to Assistant General Manager of Ticket Sales and Operations after having spent the past four seasons as a Group Sales and Operations Manager. He started as an Operations Intern in 2005 before being hired full-time the following year. Nick currently oversees group sales renewals, ticket operations, and part-time employment. A 2005 graduate of UW-Whitewater, Staehler is originally from Kewaskum, Wis.

Mike Then is the new Assistant GM / Marketing and Corporate Service. Then has been promoted to Assistant General Manager of Marketing and Corporate Service after having spent the past season as the head of both departments. Prior to coming to Madison he spent the 2007 and 2008 seasons as the General Manager of the Green Bay Bullfrogs in the Northwoods League. Before that, Mike spent four seasons with the Mankato MoonDogs—one as a Media Relations Intern and three as an Assistant GM. A 2003 graduate of Minnesota State University-Mankato, Then is originally from St. Paul, Minn.
