The Florida Marlins and New York Mets are in talks to play a 2010 series in San Juan's Hiram Bithorn Stadium, according to baseball sources.
The Mets are not a stranger to Hiram Bithorn: the team took on the Montreal Expos when MLB split the Expos' season between Montreal and Puerto Rico in 2002 and 2003, and there's a still a strong Puerto Rican contingent on the team. Florida has spent much marketing effort on establishing itself as a gateway team for Latin America, and a series in San Juan would only help to cement that marketing. The Marlins have tried to set up a series in Puerto Rico in past seasons but couldn't pull the trigger.
