Community contributions of $370,000 is enabling the city to bring in the former Manchester Silkworms to Robbie Mills Field.
A summer-collegiate New England Collegiate Baseball League team will be playing out of Robbie Mills Field in Laconia (N.H.), as the Manchester Silkworms are moving there after city leaders raised $225,000 to improve the facility.
The funding comes from three sources. A local bank is paying $75,000 toward ballpark improvements, while the city is paying $70,000; the rest of the ballpark-improvement will come from team owners Jonathan and Noah Crane. The improvements will include an expansion of the outfield with new fences, new dugouts, a press box and new bleachers.
The as-yet-unnamed team will begin play in the 2010 season.
