Yankees may not sell out Mets games

In another sign the New York Yankees badly misjudged the market when planning the new Yankee Stadium, this weekend's Subway Series against the Mets isn't sold out.

That boggles the mind. A Yankees-Mets ticket has been one of the hottest ducats in baseball since interleague play launched. But so far this season the Yankees have sold out one game — Opening Day — and had to restructure high-end pricing after the market collectively yawned. Reports like this indicate the Yankees are making some headway on selling the high-end tickets, but not to the point where games are sold out.

The Yankees lead the majors in attendance, as they did last season. And we're guessing revenues are indeed up. But we're guessing they're not close to what the Yankees budgeted — which will lead to some interesting payroll discussions in coming years.
