The Los Angeles Dodgers left Vero Beach midway through Spring Training 2008, and the Vero Beach Rays (High Class A; Florida State League) played the last pro game at the facility at the end of the 2008 regular season. Since then the county and the city have attempted to lure a major-league team to the facility and entered into extensive discussions with the Baltimore Orioles before those talks collapsed.
The proposal we keep hearing about involves a group running high-school and college tournaments in the winter and spring.
