East Tennessee State University is hoping to use the proceeds from a land lease to pay for a new college ballpark.
ETSU is barred by law from using state funds to pay for athletic facilities, which doesn’t leave many ways to pay for a new ballpark. The response from ETSU athletic department officials is to offer university land next to the ballpark for lease to developers; the rent paid on that land would then pay for the new facility.
Will it work? We’ll see by this summer. RFPs for the project will go out this week.
