The two-year renovation of the historic facility — now, interestingly, one of the oldest ballparks in the majors, a distressing fact to those of us who remember when Royals Stadium opened as a state-of-the-art venue — will retain the basic charms of the old place while adding modernizing touches like a rooftop party deck, new team offices, wraparound concourse, more suites, more restrooms and more ticket booths. The $250 million project actually began before the start of the 2008 season with the installation of a huge videoboard and more. Yes, we’ll be there later in the season.
