The committee charged with finding a new site for a Boston Red Sox spring-training site in suburban Lee County has trimmed down the list to nine potential locations.
The four-person committee eliminated seven submissions because they fell outside the geographic area set up for consideration or did not meet other criteria.
This was the first attempt to prune the list, and although all nine developers will have a month to prepare a formal presentation to the committee (Feb. 23 is the target date for that round), we’d expect another round to end up focusing on the three major contenders. Only two proposals met Lee County’s criteria for an offer of free land, and one other made a partial offer of free land.
Here are the nine surviving submissions:
Alico Lakeside LLC/FJRB LLC (Estero: just north of the intersection of Domestic Avenue and Alico Road)
Edison Farms Trust & Agripartners Limited Partnership (Estero, south of Corkscrew and east of I-75)
Estero North Point LTD (Estero, along eastern edge of U.S. 41, north of Williams Road, north of Coconut Point Mall)
Jeffrey B Freeman, Trush & F.S.M. of Fort Myers (Fort Myers: Along western edge of I-75, south of Old Hickory)
Galvano Development (Estero, along north edge of Alico Road, south of airport)
Glevin 275 LLC/SLevin 275 LLC (Estero: east of I-75, across from airport)
Three Oaks Regional LLC (Estero, along western edge of Three Oaks Parkway, between Alico Road and Winged Foot Drive)
University Highland Limited Partnership (Estero: Between I-75 and Ben Hill Griffin, north of Germain Arena)
Watermen-Pinnacle Inc. (Fort Myers, along northern edge of Daniels Parkway across from airport)
