When federal officials consider the outlines of an economic stimulus package, Yonkers (N.Y.) officials hope they include $45 million for a new independent Atlantic League ballpark.
Plans for a downtown ballpark have been floated by Yonkers officials and developer Struever Fidelco Cappelli for several years now, but the proposal has never received enough financial backing to move forward. Now, under the guise of infrastructure improvements, the city is proposing the federal government spent $321 in various city projects, including $45 million on the ballpark, as well as additional money associated with a downtown redevelopment.
To say there will be a feeding frenzy for the federal funds is an understatement: every state is already working on a wish list keeping in line with the priorities set by the incoming Obama administration.
