Final votes on a new ballpark for the Florida Marlins have been delayed once again, this time to February.
Both the city and Miam-Dade County must pass several votes on a lease and other agreements surrounding the new Marlins ballpark, slated to open in 2012. The initial votes were originally scheduled for Thursday.
There’s some debate as to whether the proposals will pass. One issue: because the Marlins did not allow competitive bidding on the project, they must pass by a two-thirds supermajority on the county commission.
The $515-million retractable-roof ballpark is being funded by the Marlins ($120 million) and the county, with the city contributing land (the former Orange Bowl site) and a $100-million parking ramp.
