Kraft Construction of Naples, Fla. has won the job to build a new spring-training facility for the Boston Red Sox in Lee County.
The firm is a major presence in southwest Florida, where it’s worked on major projects over the past years. Though the firm as it stands now as no direct experience with ballpark construction, senior managers there worked on the construction of City of Palms Park, the current spring home for the Red Sox. And Kraft Construction is now owned by Manhattan Construction, currently embarked on the construction of a new ballpark in downtown Tulsa for the Tulsa Drillers (Class AA; Texas League).
Kraft beat out larger firms with more ballpark construction experience, including Turner Construction and Hunt Construction.
The next step is the selection of an architect — a topic due to be discussed this week — followed by the selection of land site on Jan. 22.
