The location, near the intersection of major roads near the western end of the Howard Frankland Bridge (the major causeway bridge across the bay), has one definite advantage, according to ownership: it’s closer to most of the population in the Tampa Bay area, with twice as many people living within a 30-mile drive of the proposed site than the team’s current home, Tropicana Field.
Several sites have been proposed for a new Rays ballpark, including a former landfill. A Baseball Community (ABC), a local citizens group, has been charged with finding a location for a potential new ballpark; the Rays recommendation is just that, but it is expected to carry much weight with committee members.
