A’s managing partner Lew Wolff reassures sports editors that a proposed Fremont ballpark is still on track.
All is well! All is well! That’s the message from Oakland A’s managing owner Lew Wolff, who told a gathering of Associated Press Sports Editors that plans for a new Fremont ballpark remain on schedule. Wolff is proposing a massive development features housing, retail, office space and a new $500-million ballpark, and as we all know the larger the development the longer it takes to complete. Right now Wolff and crew are waiting to see first drafts of a full environmental-impact study of the 143-acre site. The initial plan was to open the new ballpark for the 2011 season, but we’re highly skeptical that deadline can be met, even if construction were to begin early next season. We’re not entirely sure there’s a plan B, though, if the billion-dollar-plus development falls through; the team probably can’t go on forever at the Coliseum. More from AP.
