Worker dies at Hagerstown ballpark; investigation begins

Hagerstown SunsA seasonal worker for the Hagerstown Suns (Low Class A; Sally League) died after falling from a utility vehicle, triggering an investigation by Maryland officials.

While working at Municipal StadiumMitchell Akers, 18, of Smithsburg was riding on top of garbage bags stacked in the back of a utility vehicle. When the driver took a sharp left, Akers fell off and suffered a fatal head injury.

Maryland Occupational Safety and Health officials are investigating the accident.
