Election promotion: Canaligator for president
We always see plenty of promotions tied to presidential elections, and here’s one of the first for the 2016 campaign: Canaligator, Lowell Spinners (short season A; NY-Penn League) mascot, is running for president. Many MiLB teams run some sort of electoral-related promo, especially during a presidential race. Most notably, the Goldklang Group runs a Bobblection across their […]
“White Rat” immortalized in a bobblehead
During his time in pro baseball Whitey Herzog was known as the White Rat. That nickname is being memorialized in a bobblehead giveaway from the River City Rascals (independent; Frontier League). Hall of Famer Whitey Herzog made his name as manager of the Kansas City Royals (1975-1979) and the St. Louis Cardinals (1980-1990), leading the […]
Sager bobbleheads a big hit in Fort Myers
It was awfully sporting for broadcaster Craig Sager to dress exactly like one of the two bobbleheads given away by the Fort Myers Miracle (High Class A; Florida State League) last weekend, but it did add to the ambiance. A good crowd turned out for the return of the former WINK-TV sports broadcaster, who began […]
Worst. Bobblehead. Ever.
We can definitively say this Barry Zito bobblehead issued by the Sacramento River Cats (Class AAA; Pacific Coast League) won’t win any awards this season. Oh, sure, there are issues with Zito’s face. But the biggest issue is a basic one: just check out where his glove is. (Via @checkwitek on Twitter; H/T USA Today.) […]
Election yields bounty of candidate bobbleheads
If it’s an election year, you can bet on a raftload of bobbleheads from minor-league and summer-collegiate baseball teams to commemorate the occasion — and maybe grant a little guidance to voters. We’ve already seen at least two teams holding Obama vs. Romney bobblehead/wobblehead giveaways this season — the Madison Mallards (summer collegiate; Northwoods League) […]
Expecting a great night at McKechnie Field
You remember the drama last February at McKechnie Field, when Trevor Gooby delivered a baby outside the ballpark gates. In true MiLB form, the Bradenton Marauders are issuing a bobblehead to commemorate the occasion. The story: Gooby, the senior director of Florida operations for the Pittsburgh Pirates in Bradenton and GM of the Bradenton Marauders (High Class […]
Hey Jack Kerouac: Spinners to honor local hero with double bobble
The Lowell Spinners (short season A; NY-Penn League) are once again honoring favorite son and unlikely ballpark hero Jack Kerouac, this time with a double bobble. The double bobble, with both arm and head movement, will be available for the first 1,000 fans through the gates, courtesy of the UMass-Lowell English Department, as well as […]
Bobbletail surfaces in Clearwater
We’ve seen bobbleheads, bobblehands and bobblefeet given away at the ballpark. Now comes a bobbletail, courtesy of the Clearwater Threshers (High Class A; Florida State League). At their June 1 game the Threshers are giving away a bobbletail of Winter to the first 2,000 fans at Bright House Field, as part of a community effort […]
Do-it-yourself protesting with Maynard Mallard bobblehead
Lots of Madison Mallards (summer collegiate; Northwoods League) news today: the team released plans for a protesting Maynard G. Mallard bobblehead, suitable for the political message of your choice. The reference, of course, is to the protests over the course of Wisconsin state government after Gov. Scott Walker led a move to limit the collective […]
River City Wizards for a night
The River City Rascals (independent; Frontier League) will be the River City Wizards on Sept. 1, as the team honors longtime St. Louis coach Lonnie Maclin with an Ozzie Smith promotion. Smith is a longtime friend of Maclin, who played in twelve games for the Cardinals in 1993. Maclin suffered a stroke back in January […]
Rascals to honor Maris, the True Home Run King
It’s the 50th anniversary of Roger Maris’s legendary 61-homer season, and the River City Rascals (independent; Frontier League) are honoring the former Yankee and Cardinal great with a bobblehead proclaiming him the True Home Run King. Maris’s accomplishment, already memorialized in film and the subject of memorials this season at Yankee Stadium, grabbed the attention […]
