Florence Freedom Sale Making Progress

Florence Freedom

A sale of the Florence Freedom (independent; Frontier League) is in the works, with a local group of investors closing in on a purchase of the team from Kim Brown

Kim Brown has been leading the Freedom since the January 2018 passing of her husband Clint Brown, who purchased the club out of bankruptcy in 2004 and helped turn it into one of the steadier operations in the Frontier League. She is now working on a potential sale of the Freedom, with an unidentified group of local investors working to finalize its purchase.

The Frontier League has not given final approval to a sale, but Florence, KY officials say that they would work with the prospective new ownership group to extend the Freedom’s UC Health Stadium lease beyond its current September 2020 expiration. Through a statement, the group has said that intends to keep the team at UC Health Stadium, but otherwise is not divulging details on the potential transaction. More from WCPO:

“It’s a partnership that we are very fortunate to have,” said Mayor Diane Whalen, “and we plan to work really hard with the new potential ownership group to continue that.”

City Hall voted to approve assigning the stadium lease to the baseball club pending the sale’s final approval. That lease is set to end in September 2020, but everyone involved says the team plans to stay at city-owned UC Health Stadium for the long term.

The new potential owners are not releasing many details until a deal is official, but they say in a statement:

“The principals of Freedom Baseball Club, LLC are local business people and will keep the team at UC Health Stadium.”

The Freedom have played at UC Health Stadium since 2004, when the facility debuted under the name Champion Window Field.
