The home of the Williamsport Crosscutters (Short Season A; NY-Penn League) is set for more renovations, as a $600,000 state grant will help fund BB&T Ballpark at Historic Bowman Field upgrades.

Prior to the 2017 season, BB&T Ballpark at Historic Bowman Field received a wide variety of upgrades aimed at improving both the fan and player experiences. While the Crosscutters have benefited from those improvements, the upgrades have also helped the ballpark host the annual MLB Little League Classic since it began in 2017.

More upgrades are on tap, and a $600,000 state Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program grant secured by Pennsylvania state senator Gene Yaw will help fund those improvements. Among the upcoming renovations to the ballpark include a new videoboard, clubhouse improvements, and more. More from NorthCentralPa.com:

The state investment will be used to purchase a new high-definition video board, and make a number of improvements that include new lighting, pole upgrades, storm water control measures, outfield fencing, netting, and renovation of the team’s clubhouses and picnic area. The funds will also be used to purchase new field maintenance equipment.

“This is great news for Williamsport and the region,” Sen. Yaw said. Last year, over 60,000 fans attended Crosscutter games, buying local items, eating locally, investing locally. This grant is a direct investment into our community. I congratulate the City and thank Governor Tom Wolf for his support of this grant.”

“I’m proud to support the continued renovations taking place at this iconic tourism destination,” said Governor Tom Wolf. “This project will spur additional economic activity by improving the fan experience, making the ballpark a more viable facility for the future so that everyone can enjoy this family-friendly venue for years to come.”

BB&T Ballpark at Historic Bowman Field has hosted the MLB Little League Classic–held annually in conjunction with the Little League World Series–in each of the past two seasons. Plans for the 2019 game have already been announced, as it will feature the Pittsburgh Pirates taking on the Chicago Cubs on August 18.
