The Class AA Texas League has revealed the host for its 2019 All-Star Game, as the Tulsa Drillers and the city of Tulsa will welcome the contest next June. The game will be played on Tuesday, June 25 at ONEOK Field in downtown Tulsa.
It will be the 83rd playing of the league’s summer classic, and it will mark the seventh time that Tulsa has hosted the game. ONEOK Field was the site for the All-Star Game once before, in the 2012 season.
“We are thrilled to be selected to host the 2019 Texas League All-Star Game in Tulsa at ONEOK Field,” said Drillers President Mike Melega. “It is the marquee event of our season with many of Major League Baseball’s best, young prospects on display. We look forward to showcasing our beautiful city to the All-Stars and Texas League executives, while providing a great event for Tulsa Drillers fans.”
The city of Tulsa also hosted the game in 1962, 1981, 1982, 1990 and 1999.
The game has been a recent showcase for future major league stars. Current major league players who have appeared in the game recently include: Mike Trout (Los Angeles Angels), Dallas Keuchel (Houston Astros), Nolan Arenado (Colorado Rockies), George Springer (Houston Astros), Mike Moustakas (Kansas City Royals), Matt Carpenter (St. Louis Cardinals), Matt Adams (Washington Nationals), Wil Myers (San Diego Padres), Salvador Perez (Kansas City Royals), Ryon Healy (Seattle Mariners), Joey Wong (St. Louis Cardinals) and Jon Gray (Colorado Rockies).
The format for the Texas League All-Star Game pits the North Division All-Stars featuring players from Tulsa, Arkansas, Northwest Arkansas and Springfield, against the South Division All-Stars with players from Corpus Christi, Frisco, Midland and Amarillo (new team replacing San Antonio in 2019).
A post-game home run derby “swing-off” was used to determine the winner in this year’s game when it finished tied after nine innings.
2019 Tulsa Drillers season ticket holders will have the first opportunity to retain their seats for the All-Star Game. Individual tickets will go on sale to the general public this winter.
