Just days before Father’s Day, the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (Class AA; Southern League) will host an unusual promotion: You Might Be The Father’s Day.
Scheduled for Thursday, June 15, You Might Be The Father’s Day will include free pregnancy tests. The tests will be will be made available on the concourse at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville. As the team explains in its description of the promotion, the pregnancy tests will only be distributed to adult fans who choose to participate:
Pick up a free pregnancy test at the ballpark, so you can find out if you will be celebrating at Sunday’s Father’s Day Game. The free tests will be discreetly available at a concourse table for adults who choose to obtain one. It will be an evening filled with suspense, intrigue and manila envelopes.
The fact that the promotion will take place just three days before Father’s Day explains its timing, but it is not the only offering from the Jumbo Shrimp that evening. Thursday will also be Thirsty Thursday, which features $1 12-oz. and $2 24-oz. beers.
Jumbo Shrimp general manager Harold Craw says that You Might Be The Father’s Day should play well with the crowd that traditionally attends attend Thirsty Thursdays, but emphasized that it is up to fans whether they choose to pick up a pregnancy test. More from The Florida Union-Tribune:
“We were just sitting around at the promotion meeting, looking at our calendar,” he said. “That’s something that plays to our Thirsty Thursday crowd, which tends to be young professionals and college students. They like to laugh and have a good time and would appreciate it being tongue-in-cheek.”
Craw said he team has several hundred of the pregnancy tests ready to hand out.
“We’ll give it to them if they want one,” he said. “But at that point, it’s completely up to them. They’re on their own.”
The Jumbo Shrimp are also home on Sunday for Father’s Day. That game will begin at 3:05, and will feature a Father’s Day cookout, among other offerings.
