The Aberdeen IronBirds (Short Season A; NY-Penn League) are set to unveil over $2 million in upgrades to Leidos Field at Ripken Stadium. Over the offseason, the Ripken Baseball and the City of Aberdeen partnered to complete numerous improvements at the ballpark.
“The new facility upgrades truly enhance the stadium experience from both an entertainment and safety perspective,” said IronBirds general manger Matt Slatus. “Together, with our partners at the City of Aberdeen, we can continue to provide our loyal fan base with the best opportunity to enjoy IronBirds baseball this summer.”
Upgrades to the facility include new handrails and concrete to enhance fan safety throughout the stadium concourse, extended state-of-the-art backstop netting to protect fans covering an additional eight seating sections (787 additional seats) and installation of a new high-definition 1,500 square foot video board and left field line score.
Additionally, the IronBirds are introducing new food concepts and locations throughout the stadium, including the Chesapeake Fresh featuring Dogfish Head area in right field, the Just Cheesy mac n’ cheese station, new BBQ options throughout the concourse, additional beer options and improved buffet and café menus.
Fans will have two chances to see the upgrades first hand over the coming week. The IronBirds are hosting a free Night Under the Lights event, which includes a team practice and autograph session, at 6:00 p.m. on June 17. Their home opener will follow on June 19.
