Security Service Field will soon have a new videoboard, as the Colorado Springs Sky Sox (Class AAA; Pacific Coast League) have revealed plans for the display. The display is set to be installed in time for its debut on June 5.
The new HD video board will nearly quadruple the digital video space of the current board, which was installed in 2007, expanding from 315 square feet to 1,203 square feet. This additional video space will feature a full lineup display, player in-game and season stats and a digital line score while providing high definition replays throughout the game.
“This is a very exciting day for our organization, sponsors and Sky Sox fans throughout the region as we make an historic facility upgrade that will significantly enhance the fan experience at Security Service Field for years to come”, said Sky Sox President & General Manager Tony Ensor. “Once installed, Sky Sox fans will be able to enjoy the full HD experience on a video board that will rank among the best in professional baseball.”
The HD video board will feature variable content zoning, meaning it can show one large image or be sectioned into multiple zones to show a variety of live video, instant replays, statists, animations and sponsorship messages. In addition, its 15HD pixel layout will provide crisp, clear imagery with wide angle viewing, giving every fan in the ballpark a front row seat to the action.
In conjunction with the new board will be an all new production room with state-of-the-art Daktronics equipment including new HD cameras while new graphics and instant replay machines will bring fresh elements to the Sky Sox in-game production.
The project, which will bring over $605,000 in capital improvements to Security Service Field, will begin on Saturday, May 27th with estimated completion by Friday, June 2nd. The displays will be designed, manufactured and installed by Daktronics of Brookings, S.D.
