Residents are offering favorable opinions of The Battery Atlanta, the development outside of the Atlanta Braves‘ SunTrust Park.
When SunTrust Park opened this season, one of the features that caught the attention of many observers was The Battery Atlanta. The mixed-use development surrounding the ballpark already features several amenities, and more offerings are expected to be added down the road.
One of the main features at The Battery Atlanta is the incorporation of residential units. Developing apartments or other housing options around ballparks is a trend that is unfolding across baseball, with recent examples being found at both the major league and minor league levels, particularly in cities with facilities in urban locations.
Though it was built in a suburban area, The Battery Atlanta’s incorporation of residential units resembles the trend seen at other ballparks, and early reviews from residents are positive. In particular, those who have chosen to live in The Battery Atlanta cite the benefits not only of their proximity to SunTrust Park, but their access to other amenities within the development. More from The Marietta Daily Journal:
“I’ve invested in it,” [Chris] Harken said, referring to his season tickets. “And it makes it easier (to attend games) to be right here.”
Walking on a large terrace with views of SunTrust Park’s main gate, Harken outlined the amenities of living in the Battery, noting regular events are scheduled for residents and fans within the Battery complex. From the restaurants to the nearby concert hall and the Braves home games, many aspects of this development make this an exciting place to live in metro Atlanta, he said.
Like Harken, Battery resident Nicole McMath chose to relocate from another part of Atlanta to the development surrounding SunTrust Park. A former Buckhead resident, McMath said her husband was the driving force behind their move into the Residences. The couple’s business, Torch Fitness and Nutrition, will be working within the Battery’s residential communities to offer training and fitness activities. The development’s brand-new quality was also a factor.
“I think it was the newness of it all,” she said. “It was like the shining lights, so to speak.”
SunTrust Park made its regular season debut on April 14, marking the Braves arrival in Cobb County after spending 20 seasons at Turner Field in downtown Atlanta. We previewed SunTrust Park and The Battery Atlanta leading up to the ballpark’s opening.
