A change is on tap at Regions Field, as the Birmingham Barons (Class AA; Southern League) have unveiled The SwitchYard on 14th. Set to be located in the space under the Birmingham sign along 14th Street, the family-friendly food, beverage, and outdoor game venue will debut this spring.
“The range of development around Regions Field and the entire city center have been both impressive and unexpected over the past several years,” said Birmingham Barons owner Jeff Logan. “We have been exploring ways to continue our investment in and around the ballpark for some time now, and we are thrilled that we found the perfect fit — The SwitchYard on 14th.”
Regions Field partnered with Macknally Land Design and Appleseed Workshop to design and build the space, which will feature two airstream trailers – a Foodstream and a Barstream. The airstream trailers will be built by Silverliner, a new company in Birmingham that refurbishes vintage airstreams.
The Foodstream will offer a gastro pub-type menu that includes various options for both adults and kids. The Barstream, will offer a wide array of drink options highlighted by 20 draft beers on tap along with a full bar. Draft beer options will feature a selection of Birmingham craft beer along with other options that will rotate on a timely basis.
A regulation size bocce ball court, ping pong tables, and other outdoor games will be a unique feature of The SwitchYard on 14th. This new venture will include uniquely designed shades and furniture to provide a true outdoor space for private parties, fundraising groups, and corporate events. The full operating hours of The SwitchYard on 14th are still to be determined.
The SwitchYard on 14th name is consistent with many railroad-themed areas in the Parkside District and is one of many additions to the area since Railroad Park opened in September 2010.
