The trend of offseason golf at the ballpark continues, as the Lansing Lugnuts (Low A; Midwest League) will offer mini golf at Cooley Law School Stadium.
As a short-term promotion, mini golf has become a popular route for many teams. Back in 2014, the Toledo Mud Hens rolled out an 18-hole course at Fifth Third Field and the trend has continued ever since. Evidence of this continuing into this fall comes from the Mud Hens’ International League rival, the Buffalo Bisons, and now the Lugnuts, who have announced a promotion of their own.
In Lansing, Miniature Golf at the Ballpark, presented by Maple Brook Golf Course and City Limits East, will open on Jackson Field under the lights from 5-10 p.m. on Tuesday through Thursday, September 20-22, and from noon-5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, September 24-25.
Rounds are just $5 apiece, and are available for purchase at the stadium box office. Golfers are encouraged to bring their own putters.
A beverage and snacks cart will provide golfers with ready refreshments.
“When you think Lugnuts, you think family-friendly fun for the Mid Michigan community,” said general manager Nick Grueser. “With the baseball season over, what better way to use the field than mini golf?”
The course architect is Lenny Yoder, the Lansing Lugnuts’ head groundskeeper, who has been kept busy mowing and crafting the familiar outfield grass into greens. “It’s our final opportunity to use the current surface before a fresh baseball field is installed for 2017,” said Yoder. “This is going to be so much fun for families to experience.”
