The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (Class AAA; International League) broke an attendance record in 2016, as they drew over 600,000 fans for the ninth straight season. Since their inaugural season in 2008, the IronPigs have led Minor League Baseball with a per-game average attendance of 8,978.
The Pigs have surpassed 600,000 fans annually since 2008, the longest active streak in Minor League Baseball. In total, 611,015 fans frequented Coca-Cola Park during the 2016 regular season.
“Year in and year out, our fans have proved to be the absolute greatest in all of Minor League Baseball,” exclaimed IronPigs President & General Manager Kurt Landes. “There’s even more excitement slated for 2017 than ever before and we can’t wait to make some unbelievably exciting announcements this off-season in preparation for our 10th anniversary season next spring!”
Since 2008, the IronPigs have drawn 5,593,412 fans to Coca-Cola Park and averaged 8,978 per regular season home game – a number that actually exceeds Coca-Cola Park’s fixed seating capacity of 8,089. Every seat in the ballpark has been sold for 436 of the 623 (70.0%) all-time regular season games – including 47 times in 70 home dates this season — with 145 all-time capacity crowds of 10,000 or more.
To keep up with seating and hospitality demand, Coca-Cola Park underwent its fourth significant seating project this past off-season with the introduction of an expansive new team suite on the Coordinated Health Club Level. Previously, the club had unmasked the popular Pig Pen left field seating area in front of the bullpens in 2015, the Hot Corner and Bacon Strip in 2013 and the Tiki Terrace & Oasis in 2012.
Coca-Cola Park has been among the most acclaimed venues in professional sports since its 2008 opening, receiving numerous honors and distinctions, including Ballpark Digest’s “Ballpark of the Year” award and “Best Game Operations and Presentation” award as chosen by gameops.com. It has also drawn rave reviews for its intimacy, fan-friendly atmosphere and architectural design. Furthermore, FoxNews.com ranked Lehigh Valley IronPigs fans as the best fans in all of Minor League Baseball.
The IronPigs’ highly-anticipated tenth anniversary season begins on Thursday, April 6, 2017, at 7:05 p.m. against the Pawtucket Red Sox and is highlighted by 33 weekend games, home dates on numerous holidays including Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Memorial Day weekend and Labor Day weekend as well as a franchise-record 19 home games against either the Yankees’ or Red Sox’ Triple-A affiliate.
