For the third year in a row, the South Bend Cubs (Low A; Midwest League) set a season attendance record, drawing 350,803 fans this season to Four Winds Field.
The previous record, established in 2015, was 347,678. This makes three consecutive years that the team has set a new historic record for attendance. As a bonus for the successful season, the SB Cubs made the 2016 Midwest League playoffs and will host a game on Thursday.
Team owner Andrew Berlin announced a special event to mark the occasion: ‘No less than Tom Ricketts, Chairman of the Chicago Cubs, will be in South Bend to throw out the first pitch and enjoy the game with everyone else,” Berlin said. “So thank you for all your support in setting today’s record, and we’ll see you all Thursday!’
