Thank the Taco: Big Weekend for Fresno Grizzlies

Cilantro GomezThe Fresno Grizzlies (Class AAA; Pacific Coast League) had a big start to the weekend, attracting 24,867 fans over their Thursday and Friday games thanks to a strong crowd for Taco Truck Throwdown 6.

A crows of 10,216 on Friday and a crowd of 14,651 for Taco Truck Throwdown 6 combined for the largest two-day attendance total this season for Fresno. The total surpassed the 22,925 drawn to the first two home games of the season, April 15 and 16 against Las Vegas (crowds of 13,415 and 9,510).

Attendees consumed 34,820 tacos at Taco Truck Throwdown 6 Thursday night at Chukchansi Park, which was slightly less than last year’s record of 37,954.  The paid crowd of 14,651 registers as the second highest in Chukchansi Park history, trailing only Taco Truck Throwdown 5.  It was the fourth consecutive sell-out crowd for Taco Truck Throwdown.

“The numbers weren’t as overwhelming as last year, but Taco Truck Throwdown 6 was our best yet,” said Fresno Grizzlies GM Derek Franks. “The lines were shorter and people could easily sample from various trucks. That proves our efforts to make the event more fan-friendly worked.”

The event was expanded outside the ballpark this year for the first time; onto H street adjacent to the first base side of Chukchansi Park. A record 32 trucks competed in Taco Truck Throwdown 6.
