We have details about this year’s Fresno Tacos transformation from the Grizzlies, as the Triple-A Pacific Coast League team unveiled Taco Truck Throwdown 6 information, scheduled for Aug. 18 at Chukchansi Park.
The main purpose of Taco Truck Throwdown 6 is to crown the best taco truck in the Central Valley, but the event has grown over the years to include a one-night rebranding of the Fresno Grizzlies to the Fresno Tacos. As always, the unique game-worn “zarape” print uniforms will be auctioned off online following the game. In addition, a new temporary mascot — “Cilantro Gomez” — will debut at Taco Truck Throwdown 6.
This year, the event has been expanded to include H Street outside of the ballpark, allowing for up to 30 taco trucks to participate. A season ago on August 6, 2015, over 38,000 tacos were sold before the largest crowd in Chukchansi Park history: 16,916 fans.
“Expanding the footprint of the event will allow more trucks to participate, so 40,000 tacos sold is a more than reasonable goal,” said Fresno Grizzlies General Manager Derek Franks. “40 K is a nice round number, but I believe we’ll reach a great deal more than that – people know to come hungry. We can’t wait to see who our fans select as this year’s champion.”
