It’s a process story, but an important one: Greenstone Properties has closed on a purchase of the 29.4 acres planned for Project Jackson, the North Augusta development that would house a new ballpark for the Augusta GreenJackets (Low A; Sally League).
Greenstone Properties ownership includes Chris Schoen, an owner of the GreenJackets. Funding for the project comes from First Community Bank, a regional South Carolina bank.
The development has weathered lawsuits and opposition from locals who don’t want to see anything big and shiny in their South Carolina community, and with the purchase of the land by Greenstone Properties, the project can move forward. The plan is for a mixed-use development that would include a hotel, convention center, residential and a new GreenJackets ballpark.
“First Community Bank values its relationship with Chris Schoen and Greenstone Properties for the development of the Ballpark Village at Hammond’s Ferry. Greenstone has prior experience with this type of development activity that is enhanced with the support of the City of North Augusta. Once completed, Ballpark Village will be a desired destination in the CSRA for numerous entertainment events and high quality residential offerings for the continued growth of the CSRA market” Jeff Spears, Senior Vice President of First Community Bank, said.
