While 2016 marks the GWL’s first season, the Rogues are already established in summer collegiate league circles, as they played in the West Coast League from 2013-2015. The All-Star Game will cap a two-day stretch of festivities that begin with a home run derby on July 25.
“We’re very excited to have the game in Medford,” said GWL President Ken Wilson. “Medford is a great city, the ball park is sensational and the Rogues have very loyal fans.”
The game will feature the North versus the South. Players from the Portland Pickles, Medford Rogues and Chico Heat will comprise the North squad, while the South squad will be made up of players from the Marysville Gold Sox, Sacramento Stealth and Lodi Crushers.
“We are absolutely thrilled to have been selected to host the first All-star game for the Great West League and to bring the game to Medford this summer,” commented Carolyn Birch, acting General Manager for the Medford Rogues. “We know that our fans and residents of Medford will be excited to showcase the amazing aspects of our beautiful city and the support that they have for our local team.”
A Home Run Hitting Contest will be held Monday evening at Harry and David Field. Players will perform for scouts on Tuesday afternoon prior to the All-Star Game.
The All-Star teams will be made up not only of players having All-Star seasons, but also additional top professional prospects selected by Major League scouts.
