Another step in the renovation of Wausau’s historic Athletic Park: the Wisconsin Woodchucks (summer collegiate; Northwoods League) today unveiled the Ministry Health Care Terrace, set to be completed for the 2016 season home opener.
Located on the second level of the new third-base concession stand, the Ministry Health Care Terrace offers a one-of-a-kind, elevated VIP group experience with covered seating, handicapped accessibility and a slew of unique ballpark views.
“Depending on which direction you are looking you can enjoy views of Rib Mountain, the Wisconsin River, downtown Wausau and of course the Woodchucks game,” said Woodchucks President and General Manager Ryan Treu.
The Ministry Health Care Terrace features a full service kitchen, seating for up to 200 people with full wait staff and outdoor televisions for fans’ enjoyment.
“We have enjoyed our long standing relationship with the Woodchucks and are excited to join them in this effort to further enhance the fan experience at Athletic Park and highlight our system of person centered care,” said Tom Weaver, public and community relations manager, Ministry Health Care.
Phase II construction began after the conclusion of the 2015 season and will be completed by the start of the 2016 season.
“The new area along with the other major renovations at Athletic Park will allow us to bring other events to the Wausau area outside of Woodchucks games; including Food and Beverage Festivals, outdoor concerts, or other sporting events,” said Treu.
The Samuels Group, which is the General Contractor on the project, has used supplies and labor mostly provided by companies located in Central Wisconsin. The Woodchucks have financed both phases of the $6 million Athletic Park renovation project.
A Civilian Conservation Corps-funded and constructed facility that was once a longtime home to Midwest League and Wisconsin State League baseball (John Henry Moss ran a Tigers farm team out of this ballpark for three seasons) after opening in 1936, Athletic Park been the home to Northwoods League baseball since the circuit was founded.
