How quickly they grow up: the Charlotte Knights (Class AAA; International League) will welcome the 1-millionth fan to BB&T Ballpark during an upcoming six-game homestand.
With a total of 990,275 fans coming through the gates in 103 regular season Knights games, the one millionth fan could enter the ballpark on either Tuesday, June 16 or early on Wednesday, June 17. The Knights need to welcome 9,725 fans to BB&T Ballpark to eclipse the one million regular season mark.
“This is very special,” said Charlotte Knights Chief Operating Officer Dan Rajkowski. “For us to welcome one million regular season Knights fans to BB&T Ballpark in such a short time is a true testament to our great fans, Mecklenburg County, the City of Charlotte, and the entire region. We look forward to meeting our one millionth fan next week.”
A year after leading all of Minor League Baseball in attendance with a mark of 687,715 fans through 71 regular season home games, the Knights are once again on top of the attendance standings this season. Through 32 regular season home games in 2015, the club has welcomed 302,560 fans through the gates – an average of 9,455 per game – also tops this season.
Some other team marks to note. Knights fans have already shattered the million mark in ounces of Pepsi soft drinks (3.362 million) and ounces of beer (10.633 million). By season’s end, the team also expects to break one million in pounds of the official Charlotte Knights hot dog (Sahlen’s) served with more than 708,000 pounds consumed by hungry spectators heading into the upcoming homestand.
