Spikes embrace chilly scenes of winter with free ice cream

State College SpikesBrilliant: the State College Spikes (short season A; NY-Penn League) are giving away free slices of ice-cream cake between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Tuesday at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park, in partnership with a local Dairy Queen.

An Arctic Blast is predicted for Central Pennsylvania tomorrow, with high temperatures predicted to be in the low single digits and wind chills forecast to be as low as 32 degrees below zero. Those brave enough to endure the elements for a cool treat on Tuesday can claim their free slice of DQ ice cream cake by visiting the front door of the “Off the Rack Outfitters” Team Store, which is located next to the Medlar Field at Lubrano Park Box Office, and can be accessed via the Porter North Parking Lot. Off the Rack Outfitters will be open to offer some warmth for those stopping by, and anyone who visits will receive 30-percent off any one Spikes merchandise item.

“The frigid temperatures and dangerous wind chills are no laughing matter, but we couldn’t think of a better way to take everyone’s mind off the Arctic Blast than by offering visitors a cool treat on an especially cold day,” said Spikes’ General Manager Jason Dambach.
