Some team moves to report: Tom Denlinger is the new GM of the Augusta GreenJackets (Low Class A; Sally League), and the Connecticut Tigers (short season A; NY-Penn League) announced several promotions.
Denlinger comes to the GreenJackets from the Richmond Flying Squirrels (Class AA; Eastern League). Next season will mark Denlinger’s 13th season in minor league baseball, having ascended from the Reading Phillies (Class AA; Eastern League) internship program, where he started his career. The 33-year-old has previously worked in the South Atlantic League, having served on the staff of the Delmarva Shorebirds. He came to Richmond after a highly successful stint as AGM with the Daytona Cubs (High Class A; Florida State League).
“I would like to thank the Richmond Flying Squirrels for a tremendous four years,” Denlinger said. “Everyone, including our front office staff, partners and fans have helped me develop personally and professionally to a point that I take this next step with confidence. I have had a lot of Funn in Richmond, and have made countless memories from my time here that I will cherish forever.”
In Norwich, C.J. Knudsen has been promoted to Senior Vice President, Eric Knighton has been promoted to Vice President & General Manager, and Dave Schermerhorn has been promoted to Assistant General Manager.
Formerly the Vice President & Assistant General Manager, Knighton joined the organization in 2009 in Oneonta, NY and helped facilitate the organization’s relocation to Norwich. 2014 will mark Knighton’s 10th season in Minor League Baseball. He was recently named the Sam Nader Male Executive of the Year in the New York-Penn League for the second time in three seasons.
“We are extremely proud and pleased to be able to promote from within to continue to strengthen the bond we have built with the community. Eric is an incredibly hard working individual who has been instrumental in the success our franchise has seen both at Dodd Stadium and in the community. His promotion is well deserved,” said Senior Vice President C.J. Knudsen.
“I am excited to be given this opportunity and look forward to continuing to work alongside our staff, which we feel is the best in the business,” said Knighton. “The upcoming 2014 season will be the 20th season in Dodd Stadium’s history and will be a celebration of memories both old and new.”
Knudsen will be entering his 19th season in Minor League Baseball and has been with the Tigers organization since 2010, when he served as Vice President of Operations during the 2010 and 2011 seasons. Prior to the 2012 season he was named Vice President & General Manager of the franchise.
Dave Schermerhorn is a Norwich, CT native and will be entering his 6th season in Minor League Baseball, all spent at Dodd Stadium. He has been a member of the Tigers front office since the team’s arrival in Norwich prior to the 2010 season, serving as Director of Community Relations & Promotions ever since.
