Allen new Travelers GM; staff changes in Hudson Valley, Mahoning Valley

Arkansas TravelersPaul Allen takes the interim tag off his job title and is now officially general manager of the Arkansas Travelers (Class AA; Texas League), as teams continue to shape their front offices for the 2013 season.

A veteran of eight years in professional baseball, Allen has spent seven seasons with the Travelers, including the previous six years as the club’s Assistant General Manager and Director of Group Sales. He will oversee all business aspects of the Travelers and the operations at Dickey-Stephens Park.

“I am honored to have been chosen to run this wonderful franchise that has become such an important part of my life,” Allen said. “We have an energetic staff here at Dickey-Stephens Park and I’m excited to lead them into the future. I think we all understand that the Travelers are a special institution in Central Arkansas. There’s a rich history and tradition here that is nearly unmatched across the landscape of Minor League Baseball. I pledge to do my absolute best to see that the Travelers are successful.”

Allen, 32, took his first job in professional baseball with the Travelers during the 2005 season as a stadium operations intern at Ray Winder Field in Little Rock. He moved to the Birmingham Barons (Class AA; Southern League) as an event planner for the 2006 season, but returned to the Travelers in 2007 for the inaugural season of Dickey-Stephens Park as Director of Group Sales. Allen added the title of Assistant General Manager before the 2010 season.

The Mahoning Valley Scrappers (short season A; NY-Penn League) announced the promotion of four front-office members. Heather Sahli has been promoted to Assistant General Manager, Marketing. Matt Thompson has been promoted to Assistant General Manager, Sales while Brad Hooser has been promoted to Assistant General Manager, Operations.

Sahli has served the organization for eight seasons. She will assume an expanded role while focusing on marketing, promotions and community relations. Thompson has served the Scrappers for eight seasons as well and he will oversee all sales efforts including tickets and corporate sponsorships. Hooser has served the organization for eight seasons as the Director of Concessions and will continue to oversee concessions and ballpark operations.

“I am extremely excited for Heather, Matt and Brad,” said Scrappers General Manager, Jordan Taylor. “All three have both been with the organization for over 8 years and have a complete understanding of the team overall operation. Their strong ties within the community through their relationships with the local media and our corporate clients make them the ideal choices. Each is very deserving of their respective promotions.”

In addition, Chris Sumner has been promoted to Group Sales Manager. Sumner has been with the Scrappers for three seasons and he will take on the management of all group and hospitality opportunities with the Scrappers.

The Hudson Valley Renegades (short season A; NY-Penn League) Senior Vice President and General Manager Eben Yager announced the addition of Alexis Howard and Morgan Powell to the Hudson Valley Renegades front office staff. Howard will be serving as a Sales Account Executive as Powell will assume the role of Social Media and Marketing Coordinator.

Howard, a 2012 graduate of Salisbury University, comes to the Hudson Valley Renegades from Peoria, AZ, where she interned at the Peoria Sports Complex. Howard also served as a Premium Ticket Sales Representative with the Durham Bulls (Class AAA; International League), handling season ticket sales for the 2012 season.  In 2010, she gained experience with the Delmarva Shorebirds where she served as both an intern and an Inside Sales Representative until 2011. Howard joins the Fishkill community from her hometown of Princess Anne, MD.

Powell joins the Renegades staff from Rome, GA, where she began her Minor League Baseball career as an Executive Trainee intern with the Rome Braves (Low Class A; Sally League) for the 2012 season. A native of Alpharetta, GA, Powell attended Auburn University where she expanded her knowledge in Media Relations within the Auburn Athletics Office. Powell graduated from Auburn in Fall of 2012.
