Cedar Rapids approves new ballpark spending

Cedar Rapids KernelsVeterans Memorial Stadium, home of the Cedar Rapids Kernels (Low Class A; Midwest League), will see $3 million in improvements after approval of a $1.5 million grant from the city.

The money will be spent over 10 years. Besides the $1.5 million from the city, the local stadium commission will contribute $1 million and the Kernels $500,000. Money will be spent both on basic ballpark repairs — apparently there are some water-damage issues that need to be addressed — and a new scoreboard, expected to cost a half-million.
