Nottle returns to Rox

Brockton Rox“Singing Ed” Nottle will return to the dugout at Campanelli Stadium, this time as the first-base coach of the Brockton Rox (summer collegiate; Futures Collegiate Baseball League).

“It always feels good to be back in Brockton,” said Nottle. “After spending half the summer away from the game, it’s great to get back on the field.”

Nottle was the manager of the independent-league Rox from 2002-2005 and led Brockton to the 2003 Northeast League Championship in the club’s second year of existence. The Indiana native returned to Brockton in 2009 and served as the assistant coach for the next three seasons.

“We’re pleased to have Ed back with the Rox for the rest of the season,” said General Manager Tom Healy. “A man of his character should really provide a spark both on the field and in the clubhouse.”

Nottle, who has spent over 50 years in professional baseball as both a player and a manager, will get his first taste of collegiate baseball this summer as the Rox approach the final two weeks of the 2012 season.
