First look: El Paso ballpark renderings

Proposed El Paso ballpark

As the El Paso City Council is debating a proposed new ballpark for the relocating Tucson Padres (Class AAA; Pacific Coast League) tonight, we thought we’d share a sneak of what it would look like.

The renderings are preliminary and are courtesy of the city of El Paso. But they give you an idea of where the ballpark would be located — in the midst of the city’s cultural corridor — and what sort of views are available.

What will be discussed today: whether to move ahead with a term sheet with MountainStar Sports Group LLC, contingent on the fall referendum passing. A new ballpark would be built at the current City Hall site, in the midst of the city’s cultural district, with a tentative 2014 opening date.
