Nice promo for two teams: the Memphis Redbirds and Nashville Sounds (Class AAA; Pacific Coast League) have created an I-40 Cup Series.
The winner of the season-long series between the Redbirds and the Sounds will receive the two-foot-tall I-40 Cup and bragging rights. The loser of the series will donate 25 tickets to the winner’s charity of choice.
“Adding a piece of hardware really puts a spotlight on this interstate rivalry.” Memphis Redbirds General Manager Ben Weiss explained. “The Cup is a great centerpiece to a long lasting relationship with the Tennessee Education Lottery.”
“Both ballclubs are proud of the Tennessee Lottery’s long-standing support of Minor League Baseball in Tennessee. This trophy will add another exciting element to our cross-state rivalry,” added Nashville Sounds Vice President and General Manager Brad Tammen.
Although Nashville leads the all-time record between the two clubs with a 123-101 record and a win in last night’s series opener, last season the Redbirds triumphed over the Sounds with an overall 10-6 record. Memphis picked up six of their victories at home while notching four in the win column at Nashville.
