Zephyrs’ Miller named PCL Trainer of the Year

Pacific Coast LeagueSteven Miller of the New Orleans Zephyrs was named by the Professional Baseball Athletic Trainers Society (PBATS) as the 2011 Pacific Coast League Athletic Trainer of the Year.

The Athletic Trainer of the Year award was earned by Miller after being selected by his peers. Miller is now among the 17 league winners across Minor League Baseball to be considered for Minor League Athletic Trainer of the Year, which will be announced and awarded at the Winter Meetings this upcoming December in Dallas, Texas.

Miller is in his 10th season with the Florida Marlins organization and seventh straight year with Florida’s Triple-A affiliate. He joined the organization in 2002 with Class-A Kane County of the Midwest League. With the Marlins farm system, Miller has worked for Greensboro of the South Atlantic League (2003), Carolina of the Southern League (2004) and Albuquerque of the PCL (2005-08).

Prior to joining the Florida organization, the two-time Triple-A All-Star Game athletic trainer for the PCL spent two seasons in the Montreal Expos system, beginning with Class-A Jupiter in 2000 and then at extended spring training and the Gulf Coast Expos in 2001.

A graduate of Southern Illinois University, Miller went on to receive his Master of Science in Kinesiology from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in 2000.
